Icare Koleos-E ARF. Built 8/2004.

1.8 m span. 1.04 m long. 26 oz. 477 sq.in. 7.85 oz/sq.ft. Stall speed 9 mph. Full-span flaps and spoilerons. Maxed-out mixes on Futaba 9C tx.

2.4Ah and 2.1Ah 3s lipo.
Castle Phoenix 35 ESC.
Brushless Aon T2815-3000 (originally Mega 16/15/5).
3:1 Model Motors gearbox.
Graupner 13x7 trimmed 4mm to clear LE.
22 oz thrust at 13 amps. 60-degree climb is best altitude gain. Dead-air flights last 45 minutes.

Firmtronics SBEC powers FMA Quantum 8 rx and six MX-50HP ball-bearing servos.
SBEC cleverly wired: cut ESC's +5V lead at ESC end not rx end, so only one 3-conductor cable goes from ESC+SBEC in nose to rx at aft end of pod. (Rx is far from the powertrain's RF noise.)

Carbon tailskid added for straighter landings.

Removable fin for easier transport.

Cooling holes added to pod. 4 "nostrils" above nose, 7 on each side just below the wing. 1.5mm diameter didn't do much at 80F ambient. I'll enlarge them.

9/2005 maintenance

Something melted in the rudder servo. Replaced it with a spare.

Gearbox wore out after a year. Now using 2.5:1 gearbox, and keeping amps low to compensate with reduced timing on the ESC.

Programming the ESC with Phx-Link: because of the SBEC wiring, the ESC gets no power from the Phx-Link, only the control signal. So while programming, a flight pack must still be plugged into the ESC!
